” A little piece of Heaven” was inspired by a grassy verge that I cycled by every day. Cycling that route always made me happy. Each season has it’s own special vibe. Spring is so exciting, all of a sudden it is green everywhere you look. It’ s a very particular fresh green, a reminder after the grey of winter that new life is bursting forth. I started stopping and looking, not just whizzing by on my bike. Then I started to notice the spots of tiny blue and purple flowers very low down. Then you start to get the yellow flowers and waving at the very top clouds of white flowers waving on their stalks.

This piece was SLOW art. It took me a few years building layer on layer. Sometimes I would sit and sew with my friend and fellow textile artist Ginni Fleck at her studio and she would pass on a piece of hand dyed cloth, or I would discover some thread in one of her boxes like the blue that would inspire me in a new direction.
This is the essence of slow art for me, acquiring things that inspire a new direction with the piece. Layer on layer,…. bit by bit……discovering and developing as I go and as I acquire new materials and inspirations. it’s the journey that is the fun for me.
