This piece is called ” Paradise Garden”. Close by my house is the most beautiful little garden, lovingly tended by volunteers. Each time I take a walk I am entranced by the variety of flowers and colours and forms. It is a walled garden, another surprising discovery in Amsterdam. It reminds me of Persian Paradise Gardens even though it lacks a water feature. It is the sense of quietness, that stills the mind and brings you back to being able to sit there and just enjoy the flowers and rays of sunshine. I don’t have a garden myself just balconies so discovering this so close by was such a bonus. This piece has been inspired by this little paradise garden.

I found the most beautiful sari silks that are made from old saris. Heaven, such a profusion of colours. I sandwiched them in between the water soluble film and machine stitched them together.  Then hand embroidered over the top and just kept going. Only at the end could I really see the interplay of all the different colours with the background as I was stitching over the top of the water soluble film. Only when this was washed out could I see it in it’s totality.

Hand sewn and made  with: Water soluble film, recycled Indian sari silk threads, embroidery threads
